Participant sport

Participant sport is a sport whose value driver is headcount — the number of people actively taking part — rather than audience size or governance credibility. Revenue typically comes from entry fees, membership dues, and equipment or coaching sales. A recreational running club or a mass-participation event is a clear example. Participant sport is not the same as practitioner sport: the former is measured by how many people do the activity, the latter by the credibility of the competitive structure around it, independent of scale.
