What is Practitioner Sport?

Practitioner Sport is a framework concept developed by NxtStride from more than 20 years of experience in sports governance and federation leadership. It helps federations test where their value and relationships primarily reside.

Not every sport creates value through a mass viewing audience.

In many sports, practitioners themselves form the core ecosystem: athletes, clubs, coaches, officials, former practitioners, families and specialist stakeholders. Competitions can remain highly valuable even when external spectator interest is limited.

This does not imply lower standards, weaker commercial potential or lesser sporting importance. Practitioner sports can have elite athletes, world championships, international recognition and substantial participation. The strategic question is whether the federation’s operating model reflects the sport it actually governs.

A profile, not a label.

Practitioner Orientation

Who forms the federation’s core sporting audience and ecosystem?

Value & Commercial Logic

Which relationships and activities create strategic value?

Communication Logic

Are communications aligned with practitioner value or borrowed spectator KPIs?

Recognition Infrastructure

Can achievement remain visible and discoverable without mainstream media?

The framework does not officially classify or certify a federation. Its initial thresholds are evolving product rules rather than scientifically validated cut-offs.
